US Marine Data Input SystemSkillsHTML, CSS, Macromedia HomeSite, Bradsoft TopStyle SummaryBefore Automark’s intervention, US Marine — the country’s largest commercial boat manufacturer — did not have a database of its product line. Details on every one of its 100s of models was “tribal knowledge,” spread among countless Microsoft Word documents. Automark created a colossal Oracle database to facilitate an online catalogue across multiple brands (Bayliner, Maxum, and Trophy). My responsibility was to provide the web-based interface to administer this database. Although not responsible for the programming, I spent weeks head-to-head with data technicians and DBAs to develop an intuitive, aesthetically pleasing front end to organize makes, models, engines, accessories, parts, warranties, corporate and dealer addresses, and the like.
The PitstopSkillsCSS, Bradsoft TopStyle SummaryAutomark developed a proprietary Content Management System (CMS) over three years to handle their immense dealership website client base. This required the staggering prospect of revamping their entire lineup of online applications. It became clear early on that the existing CSS schemas were hardly adequate, built as they were MacGyver style, using whatever was at hand. A colleague in Architecture approached me to consult on the groundwork for new global CSS standards. These were schema to be used in our admin tool, over 400 CMS templates, and all our applications. I jumped at the chance. In two months, Noah and I developed a robust, scalable solution that has withstood half a dozen subdivisions (as required by new architecture).
FordDirect.com ProposalSkillsHTML, CSS, Macromedia HomeSite, Bradsoft TopStyle SummaryWhen Automark entered into negotiations with Ford Motor Company, they assigned me the task of mocking up an HTML site to demo their solution proposal. The depicted “details page” is my take on the most efficient use of available screen real estate. Automark’s president at the time remarked that “all our websites should look like this one.”
