[For starters . . .] [Important]

In the fast-paced realm of Internet image galleries, XYZ 3-D is a slow poke. Not because of lengthy downloads, but because of the nature of viewing stereo images. If you have some time on your hands, and a bit of patience, you’re in for a lot of fun! The only physical requirement is that you have a pair of eyes with sight in both.

For starters . . .
[Thanks for stopping by!] [Important]

XYZ 3-D recommends a resolution of 800 x 600 or higher. The Parallel and Cross-eyed viewing techniques simply won’t work unless both images in a pair are visible at once, and it’s a tight squeeze at 640 x 480. (If you have version 4 of either Internet Explorer or Netscape, click here to find out your resolution setting.)

If you’re familiar with SIRDS (Single Image Random Dot Stereograms) — a.k.a. “Holusions” and other names — you should find yourself at home here. Although differently produced, SIRDS and stereo photographs feel similar to the eyes: at first appearance, they’re flat images; but give them the proper gaze and, as the catch phrase goes, they’ll “snap into place.”

The picture below is an example of one, very like any number of SIRDS you may have seen in books (e.g., The Magic Eye, by N.E. Thing Enterprises) and malls across the country.

This bears repeating. Although there are many visual cues to help a person judge depth — objects in the distance tend to be smaller, are often out of focus, and typically darker — true stereoscopic vision cannot occur with only one “good” eye. The 3-D photographs at this site, or at any other, will only appear as flat images unless you have two. On the plus side, colorblindess makes absolutely no difference. So if you’re able, enjoy!

Choose from among three viewing formats in the [Gallery], follow the inside and outside links, read about how this works, and if you’re interested in an even wordier introduction, check out [About your host]. I sincerely encourage feed back, so if you have any questions or comments, please feel welcome to send me [E-mail] or fill in the [Feed back] form. I’m always interested in making improvements and what to include in future updates.

Thanks again for your visit!
